Tribute to our friend Romain Migliorini

  1min

With the death of Romain Migliorini, Crédit Mutuel loses a great friend, the cooperative movement an ardent supporter and Lyon a steadfast defender of the social and solidarity economy.

Having arrived in Lyon in 1957, Romain Migliorini devoted more than 60 years to support and social protection − by all and for all. The founding chairman of Mutuelle des travailleurs de la région lyonnaise (MTRL) in 1965, he was behind the creation of Crédit Mutuel’s first local banks in Rhône in 1969 and served as vice-chair of Fédération du Crédit Mutuel du Sud-Est from 1982 to 1995. MTRL, which became part of Assurances du Crédit Mutuel in 2005, now boasts nearly 130,000 members, while Fédération du Crédit Mutuel Sud-Est has some 104 local banks and 648,000 customers, 400,000 of them also members.

An assiduous upholder of education and preventive healthcare, Romain Migliorini acknowledged in private that he was “born to serve”. He had chaired Fonds de dotation des Assurances du Crédit Mutuel since 2018 and recently been appointed vice-chair of Fondation Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale.

Crédit Mutuel honors Romain Migliorini as a major figure in the cooperative movement and a warm, dynamic and enthusiastic friend. “Romain’s death saddens us enormously. He was incredibly energetic and worked tirelessly for the community. We often used to say he was younger than the rest of us. Our every thought goes with him,” said Nicolas Théry and Daniel Baal, respectively chairman and CEO of Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale. “Romain Migliorini spent his whole life serving others and the common good. We have lost a remarkable man, who will remain a beacon of commitment and altruism for all of us,” commented Gérard Cormorèche, chairman of Crédit Mutuel Sud-Est.
